Four

We've been counting our sleeps since Thursday, and getting muddled up and a bit confused/ticked off with it. But today was the day that Olly turned four. Poor boy was poorly all through the night with a hacking cough and cold combo. But he's been a trooper today, bolstered no doubt by Ninjago Lego, Fancy Red Loco and all manner of lovely gifts from family and friends.

I made the most hilarious birthday cake, which has become a minor celebrity in my Facebook circle. I keep looking at it and laughing. I may make it a mission of mine to give loved ones dreadfully composed cakes for their birthdays. Don't be nice about it - I know that it's cack!

We took Pops to his favourite toy shop. We sat and ate pasties and watched the diggers in Hayle. We loafed on sofas and played Lego. It was a low key day, but a good one.

This evening as I tucked him into bed he said "Thank you for my lovely presents. I love my family." And even though just a few minutes before he was refusing to clean his teeth shouting "Shut up horrid Mummy!" I choose to remember the last words he said, because they were the sweetest thing any four year old could utter.

Forgive my indulgence. My boy is four. He is funny, loving, independent and has the most amazing hair.

Leanne xx

  2. Happy Birthday Olly! Being four is great and being the mum of a four year old is amazing, too. We have the rocket game, it is fun. What's wrong with the cake? It looks just like one I would make, and be proud off. It may not win you the Great British Bake Off but Olly's heart, which is so much better. And if you entertain your Facebook pals at the same time, that surely must be a good thing? I hope Olly feels better tomorrow. Children speak their mind and there is only black and white..... I am glad you ended the day on a good note. Sleep tight. Cx

  3. Looks picture perfect to me. I am just the same what I see in my minds eye is usually vastly different than the end result. But baking cakes is best ... It's just for Olly. Happy Birthday to you xx

  9. Happy Birthday! What a fab cake. When my eldest was 4 in September she only wanted a Rapunzel cake. I had to cheat and buy a plastic cake figure!!. She seemed so big and yet so little at the same time!! We have similar outbursts apparently I'm a 'meanie mummy' when asking her to put on her pyjamas but she am a lovely mummy when I tuck her in! Hope you had a lovely day!

  10. Oh four is such a very good age. Life is just FAB when you're four. The cake's brilliant, I'm always impressed when people make novelty cakes. I'm afraid mine just get something very ordinary. Makes me feel like I'm not really trying. We have "Troll" as well. Excellent reading indeed. Seeing your photo has make me wish for a (vegetarian) pasty. I'm quite hungry just looking at it. So glad your sweet little man had such a good day. I'm trying to get mine to stop complaining/arguing over every little every day chore - teeth, bath, pjs, getting ready for school, etc. etc. We had a HUGE bust-up over coat-wearing this morning. How lovely his words were at the end of the day though. Hope the rest of your week is good Leanne. CJ xx
