52 Weeks Of Happy - 26/52

I'm sat at the dining table. It's an absolute stunner of an evening here in St Ives, and I'm off in a while to water the plants in the greenhouse. There are cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, strawberries, chilli peppers, coriander and basil growing away. I have the beginnings of a crop on most of them. It is all very exciting.

Oh I know it's hardly self sufficiency, and I'm still a beginner when it comes to successional planting. But I find it such a satisfying hobby. I'd like to take it further, but have limited space, so for now it's all about the joy that a small crop of radishes or shallots can bring. Plus they taste so much nicer too.

In my veggie plot my broad beans and runner beans are romping up the bean poles. I have also planted spring onions this year, and they seem to be doing well. I have plenty of cut and come again salad leaves, and I have been enjoying green salads with balsamic dressing for  couple of weeks now.

Rustic Veg Patch

 You may remember me posting a while back about making some staging out of a broken step ladder. It was inspired by an garden article that I had read in a magazine. I finally got around to sawing up said ladder and Olly and I had lots of fun potting on lots of courgette plants and placing them on our rustic shelves. So far the slugs and snails have not been able to get at them, and it has made this part of the garden look much prettier.

You can see Beryl and Jean's house behind their enclosure. It's functional and not very pretty. But with the greenery around it, it is softened. I have also put the sweet pea tubs down there, and am encouraging them to scramble up the wire netting. Not the best photos, but I feel very happy in this little patch of mine.


Ladies Who Lunch

My friend Liz took me out for lunch this week, as a thank you for giving her a lift to Plymouth. It was a very kind gesture, because I actually really enjoyed our road trip. It's not very often I get to share a journey with another person who is as ridiculous as me (and I mean that in the most loving way). We talked and laughed and bitched loads.

I had a very tasty salad. We sat by the window of a restaurant on the harbour, and chatted and people watched. I have know Liz for a long time, in that we knew each other slightly from the school gate. It has only been since book and fat club that I have got to know her, and we have become friends. It is an uncomplicated friendship, and I have come to value it very much.

Here Comes The Sun

It has been sunny with a capital SUN here in St Ives. After our hit and mostly miss Spring, I have relished sitting in the sunshine, going to the beach, watching the plants go barmy, and the all round feel good feeling from a bit of sun on your face.

These photos were taken at the weekend, walking the dogs over the cliffs to Clodgy Point. A perfect evening. I wish I could bottle the smell. It was clean and fresh and I stood there breathing in lungfuls.


Desk

I love a good find. Here is the latest one. A child's desk for £7.00! It needs a little tlc, but I couldn't walk away without taking it home. Olly has already put his pens and colouring book inside. It has an ink well. And on the underside of the desk top is inscribed "Voo & Roos desk." All I need now is a little chair to go with it....
