52 Weeks Of Happy - 18/52

It's Spring!!
(It's not)
It's Spring!!
(It's not)
It's Spring!!
(No, it's not).

Jeez what can you plan to do in this weather? My boys are still on Easter jollies, and the weather this week has been completely useless for outdoor adventuring. As I write this, the sun is trying to break through, and I've been informed that we should have fine weather this weekend. But it's getting a bit boring now don't you think?

I want to wear flip flops.
I want to drink my first cup of tea in the garden.
I want to take the boys out for an early evening walk on the beach.
I want to be nearer to alfresco dining.
I want to sit in the garden at the end of a working day, with a cold beer and a good book.

The good news is that I'm not at all barmy this week. Phew! The bad news is that book group has been postponed until next week, and alas I cannot attend. Boo!

But enough moaning. On with the happy.

Four simple happy things from my week. As always I defer to Jen and Gillian

Tulips

My new favourite flower. Both in the garden and in the home. What glorious blooms. There are so many pushing up through the soil at the moment. Still shut tight, but with that unmistakable shape. I shall definitely be planting more bulbs this autumn.

A Good Read

I'm pretty hard to please on the book front these days. I so often read and dismiss novels because they just fall short of the mark, and I am left disappointed. However Maggie O'Farrell is a favourite of mine. I love her work, and so I have treated myself to her new novel in hardback. I started it last night, and read far too late into the wee hours. It's a corker.

Coffee and cake with Mum

Mum is visiting, and we went out and about today. It was miserable - drizzle and grey skies. We ended up sheltering in a cafe in Porthleven, which makes a mean banana and walnut cake. It's been great having Mum to stay. She's done all my ironing and we've had a good giggle too.

Welcome Alexander!

My dear friend Nina and her partner Stephen had a baby boy about an hour ago. I am thrilled for them both. A picture of him has been posted on Facebook, and he looks a very bonny little lad indeed. I wish all three of them all the love and luck in the world. It's wonderful news. I can't wait to go to the North East and pay a visit.

And that, my friends, is my happy.

Okay, Olly is already tucked up in bed. Sam is revising. Alfie is watching a film. I am going to either read a magazine or surf Netflix and find something girly to watch. Maybe with a glass of wine. Or failing that a cup of tea.

That's another happy right there.

  1. Wonderfully happy things. I enjoy Maggie O'Farrell too (ooo- and hardbacks are such a treat!) and know just what you mean about being picky with books. I just have no tolerance for flimsy writing these days.
