"I Dooooooooooooooooooooooo!!"

It's my wedding anniversary!!

Sixteen years ago, Marc and I got married at Bedford Road Church, St Ives. We were living in London at the time, but thought that it would be more romantic to be married by the sea, than a registry office in Crouch End. The run up to the wedding was actually a very stressful affair -  we planned, invited and held the wedding within nine weeks of actually deciding to tie the knot. The budget was very tight, my wedding dress was charged to my credit card and was too big for me on the big day.

I honestly don't remember very much about the day itself. I do recall not being able to walk in the high heels, giving the impression that I was running up the aisle, the shortest speech EVER by the father of the bride (no mention of his beautiful daughter etc etc etc), smoking sneaky fags in the ladies and hearing my husband whistling in the hotel bathroom just before I passed out. From exhaustion, obviously.

Unbeknown to us, we were already parents to be. Several weeks after the honeymoon when I couldn't shake the tummy upset I had caught in Turkey, my GP confirmed that I was pregnant. We were pretty shocked and frankly unprepared for a baby. Our lives as a married couple has been a whirlwind ever since. It's not always been easy. But it's always been eventful. Now we are a family of five. Chaotic, noisy, exhausting, joyous, fulfilling.

We don't normally go in for cards and presents for each other, but Marc came home last night with flowers and 'Nigellissima.' Tonight we are out for a meal. Just the two of us. I may even wear heels. I may even put on some lippy.
