Blowing A Hoolie

Cornwall has been battered this week. Rain and wind pounding relentlessly at our door. The sea has been whipped up into an angry frenzy. Rising up and smashing down. There has been plenty of damage.

In spite of it all, there is a raw beauty too. Looking down at Porthmeor yesterday afternoon, I was transfixed. The waves were easily twenty feet high. It was exhilarating to watch, my emotions mid way between awe and fear.

Today it is a calmer day, and cold. I think that we are in for more wind and rain throughout the week. We were going to go to Eden Project, but instead we are just about to jump in the car and drive to Mousehole. From there over the top towards Lands End and back along the coast road home.

  1. I think you are right about the magnificent sights right now associated with the storms. Not good if you are adversely affected by them thought. I'd love to be able to see the waves first hand but never like some of these clowns spectating at the end of piers and risking being washed out to sea. Glad you had a good safe vantage point and hope you post more pics.

  3. Those are beautiful pictures! I check the BBC news online every morning, and I can't believe how many times this winter you have been hit by storm and floods. I'm sure you are fed up with it. I hope you have a brilliant spring to make up for how it's been this winter!

  5. Your pictures are incredible too. We were glad we ventured over to Portland to see the waves with our own eyes. You don't appreciate the size and power of the waves. We too are saddened by the damage that has been done in all our favourite seaside locations.Sarah x

  6. Amazing photos. I think it would be quite scary seeing the waves so high, the sea is so powerful and the damage it does is frightening.Keep safe.
