Let's Dance

You'd be forgiven for thinking that West Cornwall has been bathed in sunshine this past week. Far from it. That's why it's so much more important to get out there and enjoy while it does bestow itself upon us, don't you think? I've done it all; beach, hill, cliffs, woods, fields and lanes. I've squelched along in my wellies and rather attractive waterproof trousers, with Honey a constant companion. It's felt good people. There are signs of growth and life everywhere. The birds are definitely gearing up for Spring. I even saw a bumble bee, although I'm wondering whether that's a good thing.

In other news, Sam retuned to Uni today. He lugged his ridiculously heavy suitcase onto the train at St Erth station, and was gone. Just like that. I gave him a hug and held it together, but he was already looking away from me and up the line. Looking forward to getting back to his friends. Looking forward to the new semester, and the modules he has chosen. Hoping to audition for another play, and perhaps write for the student paper. I came home and stripped his bed, emptied his bin and tidied his shelves. I had a moment. Just a little one. When he came home for Christmas, it was if he'd never been away. Now he's returned, it's as if he was never here at all.

I am going into hospital tomorrow to have my hideous varicose veins (thank you Oliver) dealt with. They have become more and more painful this past year, and I have become very self conscious of them to boot. I've bought some new underwear for the occasion, because I'm sure Mr McDermott will have enough on his plate with the chunky thighs of this nervous client, who will probably babble incessantly throughout the procedure. Yes, I'll be awake. They do it with catheters and a probe. I've attended to everything lady wise, and am as groomed as a dog in show!

Wish me luck!

Leanne xx

A little tribute to David Bowie

I remember hearing the song 'Rebel Rebel' whilst sat outside my much older and rather fabulous cousin's bedroom. She epitomised cool, and always had very good musical taste. I loved the guitar intro, and the idea of this vampy woman who did as she pleased, seemed very daring to this young girl. I still played with Sindy Dolls and had a poster of Olivia Newton John on my wall. Poor Olivia never really cut the mustard after that, and I replaced her with Debbie Harry soon after.

  3. Beautiful photos, glad you've been having some good roams. I can imagine how hard it has been to say goodbye to Sam again. Just a short term this time though, so I hope he will be back before too long. Good luck tomorrow, I hope it all goes well. And goodbye Mr Jones, cool from beginning to end. CJ xx

  5. Glad to hear you've treated yourself to new undies...I'm always being told that if I was run over I would be a major embarrassment to my family in the undies department. Will be thinking of you tomorrow. Do you have to walk miles afterwards? Sad about Bowie...sound track to my life. B xx

  6. I wish you all the best tomorrow, Leanne. Varicose veins are one problem I very surprisingly do not have (yet). I thought for sure I'd get them since they run in my family. It does look sort of springlike in your photos, it's hard to believe that's happening already. It's colder than normal where I am, and while it's way too soon to tell, it seems like spring could actually be a little late around here. I was shocked to read of David Bowie's death. Then I took my children to a children's theater performance about the solar system this morning and they were playing "Space Oddity" while people were taking their seats. It made me sad but then I realized that my kids recognized it and were actually humming along, which was comforting. He had a major impact.

  7. Best of luck with the veins. Shocking about David's death, he was always so cool, he seemed immortal.

  8. Beautiful photos and you're right, good weather isn't always around so taking advantage of it when it's around is vital. Especially to capture it with photos. I could hear the sadness in your voice, sharing about Sam. Awww...regardless of whether he's there or away, your love for each other will see you through. :) Good luck at the hospital and hope all goes well.

  10. So sad about Bowie. He was my teenage idol and I sniffled my way around the supermarket yesterday after hearing of his death. Glad you've been out and about enjoying the moments of good weather and good luck with the vein op - I loved that you ensured that everything is tidy in the garden! xx

  11. I understand that moment in your son's bedroom. My youngest has left home now and moved to the other end of the country but he was home for Christmas for almost two weeks. We soon all settled into our familiar routine and then he was gone. I coped with Uni terms knowing that they were coming back but this is permanent - I suppose its the "empty nest syndrome".
Lovely photographs, good to see blue sky.

  13. Best of luck with your veins glad you've prepared for your op!! Sympathies seeing Sam off, my graduate returned to uni at the weekend to work there this time not to study. Slight sobbing in my hanky xx

  14. I am wishing you all the good luck you need for your varicose intervention. You made me smile with your grooming and underwear buying - I would do just the same. I am the person who worries about her undies at the off chance I might end up in hospital, or the morgue (the fact that I know most of the forensic pathologists in town doesn't help). I am not surprised you had a moment after Sam left. He sounds like a fine young man. No doubt he thinks your a fine mum. Lots of love xx
P.S. Lovely photos, as always. Hoping for the sun to make an appearance.

  15. Good luck with the op Leanne, you'll be flashing your legs on the beach again soon :) So sad about Bowie, he was very much part of my teens and all through my life. I was so excited about the new album last week so was very shocked to hear of his death. Incredibly creative to the very end, he will be missed.

  17. Good luck with the op chick- you do make me laugh, attending to all the lady bits and pieces:o) Lovely piccies as always. I am thinking I should go outside as the sun is out, even though I spent two hours out there this morning. Sad re Mr Bowie. He was an amazing man. Hope you feel better after Sam scooting off. It's what you want for them isn't it, to be happy, fulfilled and independent, but it aint half hard on mums (and dads)! XX

  19. It is always best to attend appointments feeling one's best: you'll look great come the summer, flashing your legs around those Cornish beaches!
Have done exactly the same in Alex's room - they'll be back soon, wanting to know whether we've bought them an Easter egg or not... X

  20. Is that funny tower mining related, or is it an oast house or grain store?

    1. It is mining related. There are quite a few mine shafts on Rosewall. There are signs to let you know, but occasionally dogs fall down them.

  21. It doesn't get any easier saying goodbye for me. I am always sad but bounce back. You are ahead of me on the room cleaning. Good luck with the op. And thank you for your life-affirming photos of West Cornwall. My eldest brother was a huge Bowie fan and still has all the wonderful LPs. I used to listen outside his room in awe and secretly gaze at the album covers and play them when he was out. He paved the way for Debbie and Siouxsie and Chrissie.

  23. Cornwall looks beautiful not matter what time of year it is! I'm sure Sam felt sad leaving home even with so many exciting things ahead of him at Uni. Hope all went well with you veins. Mine need doing again when I had it done over 10 years ago I had a general anesthetic! Sarah x

  24. I hope today went well and that you're resting properly. I am so gutted about David Bowie. You made me laugh about the grooming though. I'm sure they both noticed and appreciated your efforts. :-) xx

  26. Hope all went well today. On a sadder note, we have just lost Bowie, and now Alan Rickman, the world is now a poorer place without them....
