Good Things

The thing is I can't sleep until my feet are warm. And my feet are rarely warm. Which is probably something to do with the fact that I hate wearing things like slippers or socks when I am at home. It gets on my nerves that I may have to take them off and then put them on again. Like if we are in for the day, and then I remember something I left in the car, I can't be doing with the faff required to take slippers off, put shoes on, go outside, come back in, take shoes off and put slippers back on. So I dash out in bare feet. Ergo my feet are always cold.

I'm writing this with my feet jammed up against the radiator. The temperature has dropped in St Ives, and so I've allowed the heating on for more than an hour. My feet may be cold, but my menopausal thermostat is not. I encourage Honey to sit next to me during the evenings, and then I can stealthily slide my feet under her tummy. She makes an excellent foot warmer. And when Marc is home, I tend to press my feet against him, and try and warm them that way. Don't be alarmed if you ever come to visit, and my feet find their way to you. I'm not always aware that I'm doing it. At night, I curl the duvet under them, until they have warmed up. But I often wake to find them outside of the covers, as if gasping for air. My feet are as contrary as the rest of me.

Above is a little selection of good things

  1.  Can I recommend Minecraft Lego for little boys? It is so much better than the Star Wars stuff, which it seems to me is designed to be made and looked at rather than played with. If you are going to spend your precious pounds on these rather expensive plastic bricks, then this is a far better option. Yes you have to assemble it, but it designed to be played with, and to be reassembled in all manner of ways. The construction makes it sturdy enough to withstand the heavy handed play of a young boy, and the little figures included make for many tales of adventure and daring do. And one doesn't even need to be familiar with the world of Minecraft to enjoy it. It's a win/win situation.
  2. New books. Olly's new books. He did well from Father Christmas this year. We are currently reading The BFG, by Roald Dahl. Olly is enjoying a longer tale. He likes the way the giant mixes up his words. We have some Paddington and some Moomin books too. Honestly reading to him just gets better and better.
  3. My bed. Always a good thing. Even if my feet are perpetually cold. It is undoubtedly one of my favourite places to be.
  4. Skarloey and Sam; the bromance continues. That cat loves Sam completely. He was beside himself when Sam came home for Christmas, and has barely left his side since. Sorry about the size elevens. I notice my son doesn't have a problem with clothed feet.
  5. A new skirt. Bought in the Cath Kidston sale. It's knee length and not my usual A-line style. But I loved the pattern and the fabric. And it was a bloody steal.
Of course there are so many more good things. We watched a Kestrel swoop low into a field from her telegraph wire perch yesterday. She had such a beautiful shape to her wings as she curved around and down. There have been hump back whales reportedly spotted by the coastguard in the bay. They were seen today too, so I'm off with my binoculars tomorrow. My garden has been visited by a bevy of long tailed tits. And an owl was sat on the roof hooting last night.

You were all so kind in response to my last post. I'm so grateful for each and every one. I'm feeling lots better, and am able to see the wood for the trees a little more. I'm such a fool really. But I'm glad that all is returning to normal once again. The decs are down. The tree has been recycled. The house is undergoing a thorough clean. There are projects in the pipeline that require paint and ladders. I have bought a spirilizer; it's being all holier than thou in the kitchen as I write. Pasta is so 2015. Veggie noodles are the way forward!

Consider this post a bridge between the last one, and the next one. By then I should be firing on all cylinders.

Love to you all,

Leanne xx

(There was no sponsorship re: the Lego praise. But I'd consider putting my moral high ground to one side for a free box of the stuff. And we also like Walkers Sensations crisps too. You know, just in case).

  1. I hope that Lego and Walkers get in touch straight away!! Glad to know that you are feeling on a more even keel again. All very good things, especially that fab skirt! I have cold - and bare! - feet too. Terrible isn't it. xx

  2. I know just what you mean about slippers! Thought I was the only one who ran outside in bare feet rather than faff around with shoes! :) Glad you are feeling a bit better. xx

  3. Lovely skirt Leanne, I'm imagining you skipping barefoot over the cliffs in it in the summer. Love, love, love Paddington and Moomins. The littlest boy had a pile of Moomin books for Christmas. Another thing we've enjoyed lately is Joan Aiken's "Black Hearts in Battersea". I read it aloud to the middle and the littlest boys, a really ripping yarn. Well done on the spirilizer, I have one on my Amazon wishlist so I shall be all agog to know how you get on with it. Glad you're on the up, it all sounds very organised chez vous. Our tree is in the front garden, halfway to being recycled. Just as soon as it stops raining I shall saw it into two and try and jam it in the green bin. Try a hot water bottle for the feet, I swear by one. CJ xx

  4. Ooh now I do like that skirt. MY CK sensors are working fine apparently because I recognised it immediately. Incidentally, we have the same bed linen and my feet are never warm either, but I live in socks and slippers and can't do bed time without bed socks. My husbands loves them (not). Curious to know why Shaun the Sheep has been consumed by a T rex? Enlightenment please. Glad you are feeling better, chick :o) XX

  6. I hope Walkers & Lego of course get in touch. We don't buy Lego any more in this house - sniffs slightly but I adore the poppadoms sensations & would happily snaffle bag after bag of them if they weren't restricted!! I'm glad your feeling perkier xx

  7. I suffer from cold feet too but can't imagine walking around barefoot in winter - I need at least a pair of thick socks or they become an unbecoming shade of blue! L's boyfriend, J, got some of the Minecraft Lego for Christmas - and he's 22!!! Then again, he does design some of the software, so I'll forgive him. Love the skirt and the bunny PJs and also the fact that your cat (great name!) has missed Sam so much. Have a great week. xx

  8. You sound pretty chipper and that things are on the up. Our tree is down but not out, since it's in the garage (which currently smells lovely) but hasn't made it to the tip. We'll take it soon, and do the bottle bank walk of shame at the same time. :-)
I can't bear cold feet either and live in my slippers during the day at home. I'd wear them to work too if I thought I could. Xx

  10. Hi Leanne. I see you have those fab bunny pj bottoms from Boden that sold out so quickly I didn't get a chance to order mine.... We are a sock and bare feet house hold. Slippers are too much of a pain. There is always one missing. I hate both cold and hot feet, mine have to be just right. Lego figures are all time favourites in our house but I prefer the classic Walkers varieties, in particular ready salted. Have a wonderful week spotting beautiful wild creatures. Christina xx

  11. Always good to read your words, Leanne! Glad you're feeling perkier and long may it continue. Hope Walkers are in touch soon and maybe even Cath herself, with offers of another little something..? Happy new year to you all x

  12. I have to say I love a pair of slippers. I hate having cold feet and have special 'running to the bin/recycling/washing line' old shoes by the door for a quick change. No lego here this Christmas but lots of duplo as the smallest loves it (and her sister's lego!). I could just do with a bag (box) of walkers sensations too :) xx

  13. I'm glad to see you're feeling brighter, lovely. It's been a bit difficult here recently too (FAMILY) but the tough stuff's usually short-lived, thankfully. That skirt is delightful. And spiralising sounds great, although I'm personally considering embarking upon a juicing journey.
Finally: feet. Mine are legendary for their sheer iciness and that's even when cocooned in hiking socks. My circulation must be appalling.
