Five On Friday

Linking up with the lovely Amy.

Five things that I shouldn't have done this week.

  1. I shouldn't have stayed up really late every night this week binge watching 'Criminal Minds.' I do this every now and again. I find a series - usually an American one, because there are lots of episodes - and I get a compulsion to watch that series to death. Last year it was 'The Good Wife.' Earlier this year it was 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmitt.' I burn myself out eventually, and get bored of said series. I have always liked the actor, Mandy Patinkin, since I saw him in the film 'The Princess Bride.' Anyway psychological crime dramas, that include loads of stereotypical pyscho babble is my guilty pleasure. Honestly I eat it up with a spoon.
  2. I shouldn't have bribed Olly to go to sleep, by giving him a stocking filler that I had stashed away in the wardrobe, but I was stressed because it was book group. Since he's changed rooms he can hear everything, and so keeps coming downstairs to see what's going on. I realise that it was a daft thing to do, and so it's probably the last time I'll have book group at my house, which means I won't be able to be part of it anymore. I shall miss it.
  3. I shouldn't have hidden Olly's Play Doh. I bloody loathe the stuff, but particularly the smell. It makes me gip. He asked about it on the way home from school, and I sort of changed the subject.
  4. I shouldn't have had a second helping of lemon trifle at book group this week. I'm on a bloody detox. Which by the way has done nothing but given me a headache. Perhaps all the toxins are in my brain. Probably something to do with all the crap television I've watched lately.
  5. I shouldn't have ordered a pair of pyjama bottoms from Boden. My defence (such as it is) is that there was a 25% discount, and they are green with bunny rabbits all over them.
What have you done this week that you shouldn't have?

Have a lovely weekend!

Leanne xx

  1. Who could resist bunny covered pyjamas? It's funny, I love the smell of Play Doh; it takes me right back to my childhood. I like a nice crime drama myself - and a spooky movie (not the blood, spurt and gore variety, more the suspense kind). I'm on my own with those though, so have to persuade Hamish the rabbit to sit on the sofa with me! I had a sneaky moment with a box of Ferrero Rocher that I had put aside for Christmas today - maybe I should take a leaf out of your book and start that detox. Have a great weekend. xx

  2. Well now that's not such a terrible list you know. PJ bottoms sound lovely and who hasn't bribed a child to go to bed before with a stocking filler? I've given entire presents for some peace and quiet ;-) xx

  3. Wonderful Fall photos! I hate Play-Doh too, but mostly because it dries up into little hard pebbles and gets in carpet, etc. Much prefer modelling clay!

    1. I'm thinking of buying some clay. I hate how Play Doh can get under your nails. Urgh!

  4. I hate the smell of Play Doh too, make some homemade and it won't smell as bad. Green bunnies, of course you had to have them.

  5. Another thumbs down here for Play Doh. Why does it have to smell so bad?
I spent all yesterday evening looking for underwear online. Which I should have done actually because the knicker drawer has definitely seen better days. But I am now utterly sick and tired of looking at boobs. Mike's offer to choose for me did not help. I just hope it all fits because I really can't face going through it all again.

  6. Hi - Just popped over from Amy's Five on Friday. Love your post - so different. Not all five are bad. The PJ's sound lovely and eating the trifle is not that bad either. Joan at www.aviewtothefells.com

    1. Hello Joan!
I didn't feel that guilty about the trifle, and I applied fashion maths to the pyjama purchase.

  7. Oh I don't know Leanne, other than the bribe I think that they are all totally defensible! The bribe is also totally understandable. Perhaps you could just have the book club at your house when it doesn't matter too much about bedtimes - in school hols or something? I am sure that they will not kick you out! I binge watch too - new word of the year or something isn't it? Thank you for joining Five On Friday. I hope that you have a great weekend! xx

  8. Small boys are expert at extracting things I've found. Book group won't want to lose you I'm sure, even if you can't have it at yours. And I'm sure they will understand. Things I've done this week that I shouldn't have done - spent a whole day (may be more...) staring dully into the middle distance and not really accomplishing anything, and eating far, far too many crisps. And nuts, I seem to remember there were nuts as well. In fact there might still be some left, I'm going to see. Oh yes, and I've eaten most of a huge treacle tart. I really need to cut it all out, but it's the getting started I find tricky. And I certainly shan't be able to get started until all the nuts have been eaten. Wishing you a top weekend. CJ xx

  10. A couple of years ago I ate the stocking fillers myself, stealthily and slowly. This week I ate two chocolate bars while waiting for my eldest to exit school. Then I hid the wrappers from him. I shouldnt have done that as I m supposedly not eating sugar. It was a bad day though. I still have green playdough crusted on my ceiling from a playdate that got out of hand. I like the idea of playdough but am tired of being the one crawling under the table to retrieve it. Green bunny pyjamas sound fab

  12. Oh lovely, I feel your detox pain. I should have been eating healthily but have comfort ate all week out of pure exhaustion. What a shame about the book club, the only comfort I can offer is that, they won't be little forever! I am looking forward to my first ever binge watching this weekend ha! I'm thinking of The Good Wife, I know I'm late to the party ha! Have a good weekend x x x

  14. At least you bribed Olly and didn't threaten that he wouldn't get any presents if he appeared. Sometimes the "come down and say hello to everyone and then you must stay in your room" trick works very well - small people are just nosey but soon lose interest if there's nothing worth staying around for. We've all been there and I'm sure your book group don't really mind, so don't give it up xx

  15. I never got playdoh, I used to make a tart or or pie and let mine play with the pastry off cuts, which sometimes got baked and eaten. Boden mail order used to be a lifesaver for me. I'll never forgot my first order, a bright red warm raincoat. When I picked my five year old up from school wearing it for the first time he didn't recognise me. I was so glad to get rid of an ancient Barbour that never properly dried out between soakings. Hope you're having some sunshine and blue skies down there.

  16. We are addicted to Homeland and Mandy Patinkin is superb in that as Saul Berenstein, head of the CIA. I also like a good US drama to obsess over. The more episodes the better! I went through season after season of Law and Order before tiring of it.

I shouldn't have slept in this morning, I should've gone for a run like I said I was going to last night when I got into bed. I should really be ironing or helping the kids with their homework not reading blogs. I also completely loathe the smell of playdoh, it makes me want to heave. xx

  17. Binge watching The Vikings at the moment, stay up far too late and even then can't get to sleep! I first liked Mandy Patinkin in Alien Nation, it must have been his voice that I liked, It would be such a shame if you can't take part in your book club.

  18. I shouldn't have run down the garden to open the gate at dusk...missed my footing on the steps and twisted my ankle...ouch. Thats what happens when you get old ( so says my husband...grrrrrrr)

  19. Hi Leanne. I nearly ordered those pj bottoms. I love the smell of play doh and I am of the firm conviction that lemon trifle is good for you. And I have been binge watching The Walking Dead. Two series in one week. Shame the box sets have been removed from my on demand TV. Have a great week. Christina xx

  20. Pictures of your PJ pants please. They sound really cute! How can you watch Criminal Minds late at night, in the dark, right before bed? I would be scared our of my wits and unable to sleep. You must be tons braver than I!!
