Mother's Day

It all started on Friday night, when Marc got home from work. There was lots of furtive whispering on the stairs, and I knew that he was having the 'Mother's Day' chat. All was quiet until Saturday afternoon, when raised voices could be heard from upstairs. Aah, I thought. The Mother's Day preparations must be going well. I went about my business and pretended to be oblivious.

On Sunday I was woken up by Olly and Alfie. They both gave me a card of the Happy Birthday variety. That was probably the reason for the raised voices the day before. I had chocolates too, and some flowers. The chocolates were prised opened with glee by Olly, and he shared them with Alfie and Marc. To be honest, the only thing I wanted for Mother's Day was a lie in. Which I got. It's just as well, because I had the lurgy, and felt bloody rotten. So I slept in, and was woken up late morning with a cup of tea.

That afternoon we all went over to Godrevy. Samuel drove. I sat in the back with my eyes closed. There was bickering and banter. We laid a posy for Granny, and joked about how she would always pretend not to know it was Mother's Day when we pitched up bearing gifts. I loved that about her.

I asked Marc to take a picture of me and the boys, and was so chuffed that none of them refused. Olly is currently into making daft faces for the camera. But Sam and Alfie indulged me. A nice lady asked if we wanted a family shot. So I now have some snaps of us. A motley crew. One of us is far too tall. One of us is still teeny tiny. Ones of us is still as handsome as ever. One of us looks as if butter wouldn't melt in his mouth. And one of us looks happy to be surrounded by those she loves the most.

It's great being a Mum.

Leanne xx

  4. Hi Leanne. Oh how wonderful, what a great photo of all of you, one for the frame I think. Funny, my gran used to pretend not to know it was Mother's Day. Grans are great. I hope you closed the eyes because you were enjoying the family banter in the car, not because Sam's driving was too scary! The thought of my teenager driving is too much to bear just now. Hope you are feeling better today. Christina xx

P.S. Your Christmas card just got returned today. I had put something little in it for you because you were feeling a bit down then but I didn't calculate the postage correctly. Silly me, I always complain about my sister in law skimping on postage and look at me know. Shall I send it back to you now or for next Christmas? xx

  5. some lovely photo's to remind you of a lovely day. Hope you're feeling better. I can remember oh so well the times of taking your life in your hands when your teenagers get behind the wheel of a car. Two out of three of the bigguns are now driving. One has a car a sporty number and I just have to not think about him driving it as it still scares me to death even if he has driven tanks in Afghanistan. Daughter has passed her test but doesn't currently have a car as she's student and there is no where to park near her digs and number one son did learn but never passed his test but as he lives in a big city with buses galore he doesn't miss not being able to drive. I think that will change one day when he has a family when he may revisit it again. I've got a bit to go before the young one will be old enough to scare the living day lights out of me.

  8. THAT'S what I meant to do on Mother's Day, get a photo of me and the children. I forgot, bother, I bet they won't indulge me now. I will have to apply retrospectively. It sounds like you had a good day, despite feeling grotty. I do hope you're all better soon. The photos are wonderful, and how lovely to have one with all of you in. Have a good week Leanne. CJ xx

  10. Oh, Leanne, such a wonderful post. Those family shots are gorgeous - what a good looking bunch you are! (Nice jacket too, btw). The third photo down is a stunner. There was conspiratorial Saturday night whispering in our house too, and at 6.30 on Sunday morning I was woken and cards and a gift bag were waved in my face. What is this lie in you speak of?

Hope you're feeling better now. xx
