My Fledgling Garden

Spring has taken it's time in my garden this year. Slowly and steadily the bulbs that I planted last Autumn are starting to flower. Mainly tulips and anenomes so far. The perennial plants are unfurling their leaves, promising me untold loveliness in the coming months. There are throusands of tightly packed buds on the clemetis montana, and the various honeysuckles and other climbers are sending shoots towards fences and walls.

Overall the effect is patchy to say the least. I have sowed thousands of annual seeds, casting them out from my hand into the soil. It was a rash move, and nothing may come of it. But I am hopeful that some of them will take root and flower later in the year. I would love to see poppies, cornflowers and marigolds popping up all over the place. Probably wishful thinking, but I am rather slap dash like that. Never a meticulous planner of stuff.

I have been asked by a few people to look at their gardens/holiday owners flower pots and I've also volunteered my services at Olly's nursery garden. I'm very excited at this turn of events. Do you think my slap dash approach will be okay here? I'm not getting paid or anything, so I kind of feel that as they are getting my boundless enthusiasm and free seedlings from the greenhouse, any slap dash should be forgiven!

Next week, it's all about salads.

  1. Wow so much colour in your garden already. I love anemones, they're so bright and cheerful. I really must get a move on in my garden, I planted seeds far too late last year, though they did all come out eventually and I had a very colourful September! Think I'm just going to just throw some different seeds in this year and hope for the best. xx

  3. Yes, a slap dash approach is exactly what is needed for a nursery garden! Your fledgling garden has been immensely inspiring Leanne. I have spent more time pottering in the garden this winter and spring than during the five past years combined. I have even put some thought to what I plant where and when....like plants that like the shade in the shady spots for example. I have even asked Richard to clear a spot for vegetables. I hope this is going to last.... Cx

  7. If you're doing it all for free you definitely have carte blanche to do whatever you like. Think of the fun you can have! Your own blooms are looking fantastic. I hope your seeds come up as well. Maybe you have a future in garden design.

  9. You might be slap dash, but you are also brimming with knowledge, ideas and enthusiasm, so I expect they bit your hand off when you volunteered! It will be a blast, and satisfying too. I picked some flowers from the garden this week - it made me inexplicably happy. :-) xx
