Precious Things

Sitting on top of my wardrobe is a rather dusty box which contains hundreds of photographs. They are pre-digital copies of films sent to be developed either through the post, or at the chemist. There are wedding proofs from my parents wedding (they couldn't afford the real mcoy). There are lots of photo booth pictures taken when I was a student. These are the photos of my mis-spent youth. Every now and again when I'm feeling very nostalgic, I'll lump the box down, sit on my bed, and spend an hour or so looking through them.

It's a different experience to actually handle a photograph, than to flick through them on the computer. I find that I spend longer looking at them. I love that many aren't particularly well composed, or even great quality. There is none of this crop and filter here. I love that. They are honest, real snap shots of life as it happened back in the day. And the smell too. A photograph is a feast for all of the senses.

How hilarious are they?!

Leanne xx

  1. Leanne, they're wonderful. Wonderful. So much fun and happiness and coolness. I have some of those exact same poses. One or two of the rooms even look the same. Oh we were cool weren't we? CJ xx

  2. Absolutely hilarious Leanne! I have a box full of photos like that, too. Some of them are bundled with a satin ribbon, others just so. I know what I am going to do next time I feel like frittering some time away! Thanks for reminding me of those fun 1980s! Christina xx

  3. I love them Leanne. So true. I definitely need to develop more of my digital images. I especially like the photo booth pictures. You look like you're having a lot of fun. Bee xx

  4. These are great photos of carefree youthful days! I wish I had more photos of me when I was younger, but it just wasn't a thing for us then. I've popped over from Bee's to read about your special things. Wendy x

  5. Those are pretty awesome, Leanne. I think we have some of the same photos in common, actually. I look back at mine and I can't understand why I was so hard on myself! I was young, pretty, having fun with lots of friends. I love old photos and I really enjoyed seeing yours. Thanks for sharing.

  7. Hilarious and wonderful Leanne! You're adorable. I have a box like that and I've actually been doing the exact same thing all week, picking out photos for my 20 year High School reunion this weekend - it has been fun to revisit these memories...x

  9. I've got a stash of these waiting to be rifled through and sorted out... my student ones are very '90s and quite funny. Amazing how a lot of my childhood ones are so poorly exposed, it looks as though we were literally living through the dark ages!
I'm glad you kept these and you can look through them and smile (and, like me, probably cringe a bit too).

  10. It was fun to look through your box a with you and look at pictures of your youth. Those care free days! We have scanned all our pictures into the computer and we find we look at them more often than before, but as you say it is not quite the same as touching them. Sarah x

  11. You've made me want to go down to our crawlspace and haul out the boxes of photos we have stored down there. I really must do something with them. There are some things I miss about no longer having old-fashioned photos, but one thing I don't miss is the cost. I can remember going to pick up the developed pictures and having to pay a lot of money, then being so disappointed when I looked at them only to find that half the pictures hadn't even turned out.

  12. I wrote a long comment here yesterday and then my computer had hiccups and I thought it might have disappeared, rightly it seems.

Anyway, I'm back to say love this post and love your old pics (you look like someone I used to know!).

  13. It's good to meet someone as real as you, Leanne, and your past. From the posts of yours I have read just now, I very much believe in the vice-likeness of your grip.

  14. Firstly - you're so pretty! But more importantly you look so, so happy in these photos. Do you think we were more carefree in front of a camera in the past, in that distant pre-digital, pre-social media age? I'd like to think so. What fabulous things to treasure. x

  15. Your photos are wonderful, Leanne, what a treat.
I've got one of those dusty boxes too; it sits inside my wardrobe and I take it down in nostalgic moods. xxx

  16. I have a box of photos and some photo albums too which I also treasure. All with the similar late early 90s poses! Do you remember everyone's names? There are some people I have pictures of and can't for the life of me remember who they were (mostly from my uni halls!)!! BigR thinks it's so funny to see pictures of me before she was born (or even considered!!) or as a child! What a great post Leanne. xx
