The Year In Books - March
Joining in with Laura's monthly link up.
My book for March. Mel and Jenny M from book group suggested I read this. It has been on my bookshelf for a few months now. Now I have my readers I can cope with the small print. I have a feeling that this will be an intense read. Am I up for that this month?
Last month's read was thoroughly enjoyable. I do like short stories, and I've often thought that they must be difficult to write. For me a good short story is novel in miniature. Annie Proulx is a master of the short story as is Garrison Keillor. If you pop over to Good Reads you can see what else I have been reading.

I love short stories and I enjoy Keillor and Proulx too. I used to buy lots of old short-story collections in thrift stores when I was younger. They were perfect for taking on long bus or train rides between home and school when I was in college.
ReplyDeleteHope you enjoy it Leanne.
ReplyDeleteI loved Half of a Yellow Sun...hope you enjoy it too!
ReplyDeleteLooking forward to hearing what you think of it. I am totally enjoying 'Americanah'. It tackles tough issues without being too heavy so yours might be the same. Enjoy! x
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed 'Half a Yellow Sun' ....I'll check out those short stories I think. I like short stories as you can dip in and out and yet feel satisfied you've come to the end of the story!
ReplyDeleteOh, I have read this book...quite a few years ago now but it has stayed with me. It is an intense read, but it is worth it.

Yes, Annie Proulx is one of my favourite writers and I've read a good few books by Garrison Keillor in the past. I really enjoy short stories, sometimes even more than full length novels.
ReplyDeleteHey there Leanne, thank you so much for visiting my blog, if you hadn't I would never have found yours which is so lovely.. all about you and your home and family. I have read back and enjoyed all the posts about your times with little Ollie on the beach. I was born and brought up a stone's throw from a beach in Porthcawl S. wales so I miss the sea. Today I live in a very pretty little town, Billericay in Essex but we are only a 25 min drive to Southend, so I get my sea fix quite often.
ReplyDeleteHope you get a buyer soon for your home, I 'd buy it, it looked charming and it has the most important thing for me a green house! Good luck with your seedlings I am just about to plant mine, in fact I shall be doing some today. I have a selection of tomato seeds, a present from my daughter in a lovely little tin from Sarah Raven. I have become a follower so I can pop back to see how you're doing.

ReplyDeleteI thoroughly enjoyed this book, read it years ago and I kept it, which is always a good sign as it waits for a second read. I will add that it took me a couple of attempts to start it, but once I was in that was me gone! Enjoy xoxo
ReplyDeleteThis looks interesting! I'm loving the way Laura's got us all sharing what we're reading :)
