Happy

We stomped all over the Towans this weekend. The skies were wonderful. Bursts of the most brilliant sunshine, and then huge leaden skies that threatened rain. I love wandering underneath the big skies of West Cornwall. They are so vast. There wasn't much wild life to see. Mainly shifty crows and sneaky magpies. The boys played 'Assassin.' Basically it involved Marc and I wandering the dunes, whilst being closely stalked by Alf and Olly. Every now and then we would duck down and hide. And sometimes, when we felt really energetic, we'd stalk them too.

I went to the cinema to watch Interstellar with Sam. We sat slumped low in our seats, and shared a tub of popcorn. The film was fabulous. Yes it got slated in The Sunday Times, but I think that the critic missed the point. I sat there eyes wide throughout. I had the ends of my scarf scrunched between my fists, and these were pressed against my mouth. That's how much I enjoyed it. What I loved even more was sharing the experience with Sam. My boy is such good company. And so tall!

Alfie had another judo course on Sunday, and came away with his first blue tab to put on his green belt. He was very happy. He was also chuffed that our friend Simon, an ex para, came over to help him 'shrink the cap' or mould, and fit his army cadet beret to his head. I just know that when he next goes to cadets, he'll be telling anyone who will listen. Mind you, standing there bedecked in his uniform, I felt a tinge of unease. My son, the soldier child. Of course cadets isn't a recruitment drive for her Majesty's forces. But still.....

On a more trivial note, I just thought I'd share with you the joy of no longer having a paint stained oil cloth over my beloved dining table. Since Olly has started school, I have whipped that bugger off of my one and only piece of Habitat furniture, so that I my admire it's goodly form as I go about my business. It's a daily happy.

Hope you all have a great week!

Leanne xx

  1. Such a nice weekend you had. I'm so glad you feel good. It sounds like you did some really fun things. I'd heard that movie was good. It sounds like it was gripping, literally! I love your table, it looks beautiful bare. What an exciting milestone. :)

  2. Hi Leanne. What a great weekend you all had! I haven't been in the countryside proper for ages and miss it. My one and only piece of Habitat furniture is bashed and battered... I love your table btw. Going to the movie with teenagers is fun, mine is half exited and half embarrassed when he is in public with me. Have a lovely week. Christina xx

  4. That sounds like a most excellent weekend. How lovely that your biggest boy went to the movies with you. I am looking forward to moments like this. I watched the army cadets at the Remembrance Parade yesterday and thought that my middle boy would enjoy that one day. He loves books on survival, and stalking us on walks and all sort of outdoorsy stuff. But like you, I felt a little uneasy at the thought of it. How are things at the allotment? CJ xx

  7. What a terrific sounding weekend! I can almost smell the sea air in your pictures! The Assassin game sounds like it was a lot of fun. It was nice you had the shared experience of the cinema with your oldest. Grab those moments while you can! And well done Alfie for earning the blue tab.

  13. Congrats on the oilcloth removal! Always nice to reclaim something as your own.
The stalking game sounds both fun and disturbing (and no doubt that's why it would appeal to kids). We spent the whole of bonfire night listening to Joe's 'Nuff fireworks! Don't like fireworks... more fireworks!' etc. They can't help themselves, little thrillseekers.
Ages since I went to the cinema. Must give it a go sometime.
I love your photos and the way you've captured the light.
    Have a good week.

  14. I love the photos! I wish our oilcloth could come off but our table would not survive mealtimes! And that's just me :)

  16. You sound so, so happy! And I am happy for you. Fabulous sky and dune photos, you really caught that big sky feeling. I love oilcloths for about ten minutes then they seem to go kind of sticky, even when they've been wiped clean, and it's always a relief to chuck them out. We just put wipeable place mats straight on to the table now. xx

  17. I have never used an oil cloth in my life even when our sons were little. When I was young oil cloths were in the homes of the poor (presumably as they couldn't afford to have cotton or linen or embroidered table cloths.) I love a real tablecloth - cotton or linen - even though it means more laundry, but then I'm ancient, har, har! There is nothing nicer than putting on a pristine white cloth on a table, with or without embroidery, or a gingham checked one. Yes, some of the CK oil cloths are pretty, but I just can't bear the slimy texture of oil cloth.

I love your photos! And so glad you are feeling happy, that whatever ailed you seems to have lifted.
