52 Weeks Of Happy - 36/52

"These Happy Days Are Yours And Mine"................
as always, joining in with Jen.

A Clouded Yellow

Its a gorgeous day in St Ives today. Olly and I have been out and about with the dogs. Mainly exploring some of the footpaths leading down to Clodgy Point. We were after some early Blackberries, for Olly to scoff. We found quite a few. Totally forgot the camera. What a plum. So much to record. I'm going back tomorrow.

It gave me my first happy though.

A Clouded Yellow!! This gorgeous lemon coloured butterfly was flitting about a field of wild flowers and grasses. I'm not sure I would have been able to record it even if I had a camera. I didn't know it was called that, until I got home and looked it up. It was so distinct. I've never seen one like it before. Apparently it's a rare migrant to the UK. Strangely enough we noticed a caterpillar on a Buddleia which had naturalised in the field. I think it's the Clouded Yellow caterpillar. Nature nerd heaven!

The Great British Bake Off

Starts this evening, and I'm already so happy about it. What's not to love about this programme? For those of you outside of the UK, it involves amateur bakers given different technical and artistic challenges by Mary "Queen of Cakes" Berry and Paul "let me kneed your buns" Hollywood. I have already bought the book that accompanies the series, and have baked a few things from it this weekend.

Stanley In Space & A Train & His Boy

You've probably seen these before. It was a bit of a You Tube phenomenon. But if you have little ones who love their trains, then show them. Show your little ones anyway. It made Olly chuckle and smile, and that in turn got my happy vote. They are completely charming, and demonstrate the love of a father for his little boy perfectly.

A Different Perspective

I must take at least half a dozen photographs of my garden everyday. In all lights and weathers. Morning, afternoon and evening. It's what I do. It makes me happy. This is my favourite shot of the summer so far. By coincidence my blog has made me stop and notice those everyday things in greater detail. I have discovered the joy of capturing a detail or a fleeting moment in my day with my camera. I've had some nice things said about these photos, and that makes my ego happy too!

That's the happy.

  1. What a wonderful butterfly find. They are ever so tricky to photograph though - I only have luck when they stay put but that's not very often.

    1. Is there not an American version? I thought Paul Hollywood was filming one (and in the process left his wife for one of the presenters. It was all over the tabloids here...)

  3. Lucky you seeing that butterfly. We would have been excited too! And me and my eldest like to watch The Great British Bakeoff, great fun. Your flower photo is stunning. It really says summer. Wonderful sky, wonderful sun, wonderful petals, wonderful colour. I like to take photos in the garden too, although I have hardly any flowers. I must find some room to squeeze some in next year. In fact the boys are going to try growing butterfly and bee friendly flowers in their little raised beds next year.

  4. I love butterfly's and just recently I have discovered photos of the most amazing moths... seriously... moths! I didn't know they could be so gorgeous but they can be, mostly in the amazon and places like that.
I love your different perspective of your flower, I'd take a lot of photos if I had such a gorgeous garden, I don't have a garden at all and I'd love an English Garden full of beautiful English flowers and roses... sigh... I bet it would smell gorgeous as well!

  6. I didn't have time to read all the blogs last night but noticed your bake off picture that reminded me that the programme was on - so thank you! I love the way you have captured the light on your cosmos.
