Shattered. That's me.
By attempting to wear out the boys, I'm all done in, and the ironing is yet to be done. Living in Cornwall presents so many possibilities for exploration. I've not even scratched the surface. Today I took the boys to Falmouth. We went swimming and then on to Swanpool Beach. Good times were had by all
I was a bit sad to see that the beach cafe has been given a makeover. Last time I was here, it was like stepping into the 1950's. The cafe had mis matched china plates and cups. And it wasn't contrived. The food was homely and home made by two old ladies, wearing pinnies. The cafe was painted in that post war NHS hospital green colour. Not a panini in sight.
I was heartened to see that the crazy golf was still there. And the bin shaped like a dolphin, complete with jaunty sailor's cap.
Aah well. Cornwall is pretty up market these days, it has to be said
Tate.
Eden Project.
Expensive properties.
High end retail.
Fancy restaurants.
Pseudo retro.
And all that.

No matter. There are still plenty of hidden gems. Places that the tourists don't always know about. The bits we like to keep to ourselves
Do you have hidden gems where you live? A park perhaps, or a secret walk. A favourite charity shop, or an Aladdin's cave type of a place?

DeleteAlfie is very into appearances and so he should. An eleven year old's image is very important. Olly couldn't give a monkey's which is also appropriate. It pains Alfie to see his brother in such bright pants "in public!"
The skinny jeans gave me a chuckle. I have a pair and I call them my sausage pants. Ha. We have many hidden gems here but my favorite one in the immediate area is a little city park tucked away behind a community college campus close to my neighborhood. My husband found it on a bike ride, I think, and showed it to me a few years ago. Ever since then, it has been my favorite park. It's small and secluded and not usually crowded. My kids don't like it as much as I do because it doesn't have monkey bars. Well, too bad. I do have photos on my blog; I wrote about a visit back in March. But I will eventually do another post about it, I am sure. I like to go in the fall because there are trees over there which turn bright yellow and there are gorgeous mountain views on clear days (which most are, in the fall). I'll be sure to take more photos then.

I now have skinny jeans. I bought them in Monsoon thinking that I was buying another pair of really comfortable jeans that I had been wearing lots. I think they had been incorrectly labelled as it was only when I'd worn them for a whole day that I realised they were completely different. Doh!

The ironing can wait. It can always wait. I do envy you living in Cornwall, it's wonderful there. Hope you have a lovely summer exploring, enjoying and adventuring.
ReplyDeleteOh my god, tourists don't come to where I live!! I think they flock to the Dales in droves (as do I at the weekend) but I wish my corner of Leeds had a hidden gem. I know, it's my house, and if you're even in Leeds you're very welcome for a cuppa. Loved your gardening post too by the way. xx
